As I was looking for a campground for a week’s stay somewhere between Minneapolis and Fargo I realized that the Prairie Lakes District of the Church of the Nazarene was having its District Assembly and Family Camp at Lake Geneva Christian Center in Alexandria. I couple of phone calls later and we were made welcome to join them for the week. We do love our denomination and its family feel. Even though we don’t have any connection to this district the fact that we’re Nazarenes from Texas was good enough.
Due to the fact that this isn’t a public campground there’s no reason for me to go into depth on a review. I’ll just mention that there are many shady, but somewhat narrow full hookup campsites. One section has 50 amp service and we picked a one of the sites there. After a week of good weather, the last night there was heavy rain. Some sites had standing water, including one spot with a tent. They woke up to a “lake side” campsite!
This is a beautiful place with great lake views, nice, up-to-date facilities plus a several old time camping cabins. We limited our involvement to attending the worship services which we felt were very good. As always happens with Church of the Nazarene events we met many people who know the same people we know.
One new friend suggested we put Prairie Lakes District Family Camp on our schedule for next year. I don’t think our travel plans will bring us to this part of the country next year, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we find our way back sometime over the next few years.
